The Transport Operations Lead is responsible for the effective leadership and coordination of all heavy vehicle and driver movements within QET Transport operations. This role provides direct oversight and support to Operational Coordinators, ensuring all activities are executed with precision, timeliness, and in full compliance with company policies, legislative obligations, and client requirements. The Transport Operations Lead also plays a key role in managing client relationships, leading operational inquiries, and overseeing the seamless execution of client‐specific transport movements to uphold service excellence and operational integrity.
Specific Responsibilities
* Act as the primary liaison for all QET daily operational activities, serving as the key point of contact for clients, internal stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring clear, timely, and solution‐focused communication across all touchpoints.
* On‐call requirement for 1:3 weekly rotation, being a A/H POC (Point of Contact) for all operational challenges that arise or client / customer inquiries.
* Build, maintain, and nurture strong working relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and high‐performance operational culture.
* Oversee all heavy vehicle and driver movements in strict adherence to Company Policies, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), accreditation requirements, and relevant legislative frameworks — ensuring safety and compliance remain paramount.
* Provide direct support to warehouse operations, assisting in the coordination of freight handling, load staging, and movement of goods to ensure alignment with operational schedules and client expectations.
* Ensure warehouse compliance is upheld through regular audits, housekeeping checks, and alignment with dangerous goods handling and storage protocols, contributing to a safe and orderly environment.
* Adopt a hands‐on leadership approach by actively engaging in field operations, providing visible leadership, direction, and support to drivers, warehouse personnel, and operations coordinators.
* Facilitate and deliver daily pre‐start toolbox talks to ensure drivers and operators are well‐informed of operational priorities, safety alerts, and business updates.
* Oversee the timely preparation, accuracy, and allocation of operational documentation, including manifests, job dockets, and load instructions, ensuring compliance is maintained across all transport activities.
* Supervise and support Logistics Coordinators, Yard, and Warehouse teams to ensure all operational activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with standard operating procedures and site requirements.
* Manage contractor relationships and ensure all contracted services are delivered in line with contractual terms, performance expectations, and compliance standards.
* Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the SHS (Safety, Health & Sustainability) Plan, contributing to a Qube Safe workplace culture through leadership and engagement.
* Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and capability development of drivers and operational staff, ensuring role clarity and alignment with QET expectations.
* Conduct regular performance reviews, development planning, and frontline coaching to foster accountability, growth, and alignment with operational objectives.
* Support incident investigations and corrective action implementation, ensuring learnings are communicated and embedded into daily practices.
* Provide timely reporting and insights to management on operational performance, resource utilisation, compliance / hazard metrics, and client service outcomes.
* Champion a safety‐first, hands‐on, and solutions‐driven culture, leading by example through professionalism, responsiveness, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
* 3 - 5 years of experience in a similar leadership role
* HC (Heavy Vehicle licence) (Desirable)
* Sound knowledge of the transport industry and business management
* Knowledge and understanding of applicable Commonwealth/State Safety and Environmental legislation and standards
* Experience with driver requirement and disciplinary actions.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of people
* Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint
* Ability to work autonomously using a proactive approach to task resolution
* Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
