Permanent, Full Time Opportunity
$99,200 - $114,500 + 12% Super
Based in Armadale | Flexible work options – compressed week or hybrid

We're looking for a Senior Strategic/Statutory Planning Officer who can bring clarity to complexity, provide expert planning advice, and confidently lead the assessment of major applications and strategic projects. If you enjoy solving planning challenges, influencing great development outcomes and working with purpose, this role will feel like a natural next step.

About the Role

As a senior member of the Strategic Planning team, you'll work across both strategic and statutory planning functions — contributing to the orderly development of the City and supporting the delivery of our Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan.

* Lead the assessment of complex planning matters including structure plans, scheme amendments, subdivisions and major development applications
* Provide specialist planning advice to Council, internal teams, applicants and the community
* Prepare high quality reports, recommendations and strategic planning documents
* Represent the City in SAT mediations, hearings and planning reviews
* Undertake research, forward planning studies and policy development
* Coordinate input from technical teams to ensure integrated, high quality outcomes
* Conduct site inspections, ensure compliance and guide corrective actions
* Support and coach other planning staff, contributing to capability and consistency across the team
* Monitor legislative changes and help refine internal processes to improve efficiency and service deliver

About You

You're a planner who combines technical expertise with strong judgement, clear communication and a collaborative mindset. You enjoy working through complex issues, engaging with stakeholders and shaping outcomes that balance community, environmental and economic needs.

To this role, you'll bring:

* Qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent).
* Extensive experience in strategic and/or statutory planning.
* Experience in assessing structure plans, scheme amendments, subdivisions and major development applications.
* Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Advanced analytical and research skills to resolve complex planning and land use issues.
* Excellent organisation and time management skills
* A collaborative mindset and the ability to support and guide others across the planning function
