Senior Data Scientist – Woolworths Group
Location : Ideally, Sydney based. Melbourne will be considered.
Time period : Permanent.

The Senior Data Scientist will work within the wiq team – a partnership between Woolworths Group and Quantium – to leverage AI and advanced analytics to solve complex challenges across loyalty, eCommerce, store operations, supply chain, ranging, and pricing.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of data science projects, from ideation to production deployment, building cutting‑edge methodologies that combine traditional analytics with AI‑powered insights.
- Apply advanced analytics and machine learning to solve business problems using techniques such as XGBoost, causal uplift modelling, GLMs, clustering, optimisation, reinforcement learning and deep learning.
- Establish and maintain technical standards, coding best practices and quality assurance processes to ensure reproducible, scalable, production‑ready solutions.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers and business stakeholders to design, implement and embed data‑driven solutions.
- Act as a thought leader, mentor and people‑leader for junior data scientists, fostering continuous learning and innovation.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and insights to both technical and non‑technical audiences, influencing decision‑making at all organisational levels.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7+ years of hands‑on experience in a data science role with a proven track record of impactful solutions.
- Strong technical expertise in statistical modelling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design, with proficiency in advanced analytics tools and platforms such as Python, VertexAI and SQL.
- Commercial mindset and ability to translate data insights into actionable business strategies.
- Experience working in Agile and MLOps environments, proficient with Jira, Git, and code‑review practices.
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, mathematics, actuarial studies, statistics, physics or a related discipline.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to prepare compelling presentations that translate technical concepts into actionable insights.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently.
