About the opportunity
Gold Coast Private Hospital is looking for an experienced and motivated Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Clinical Nurse to join our team and help drive best-practice infection prevention across our hospital. If you’re passionate about patient safety, quality care, and leading positive change, this is the role for you.
As the IPC Clinical Nurse, you will support the Infection Prevention & Control Coordinator to implement, monitor, and evaluate the hospital-wide IPC program. Your work will strengthen quality outcomes, accreditation readiness, and operational excellence across the facility.

As the IPC Clinical Nurse, your responsibilities will include:
- Assist in delivering infection prevention and control procedures, standards, audits, and surveillance activities
- Support responses to infectious outbreaks and contribute to clinical indicator reporting
- Partner with leaders and staff across the hospital to maintain accreditation and compliance with National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards
- Provide education, training, and expert advice on infection prevention practices
- Contribute to policy development, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management
- Build strong relationships with VMOs and staff to support consistent IPC practices and high-quality patient outcomes
- Promote the ‘One Healthscope’ culture through operational excellence and effective communication
What you bring
Experience and Skills:
- Experience leading or contributing to quality, safety, or process improvement initiatives
- Strong skills in auditing, data collection, analysis, and report writing
- Ability to facilitate training and provide coaching or preceptorship
- Experience conducting root cause analysis or clinical incident reviews
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong time management, prioritisation, and stakeholder relationship skills
- Experience working in a private hospital (desirable)
- Participation in accreditation processes
Knowledge:
- Understanding of Australian Standards for Infection Prevention & Control (Standard 3), ACHS/ISO accreditation systems, and relevant legislation
- Knowledge of sterilisation processes (CSD), AS/NZS 5369:2023, and privacy/confidentiality requirements
- Experience in surveillance monitoring, risk management, reporting, and staff health (vaccination/occupational exposures)
- Ability to educate clinicians, VMOs, and patients/carers on IPC practices
Qualifications:
Mandatory:
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years post-registration experience
Desirable:
- Immunisation certificate or working towards completion
- ACIPC Foundations Course or postgraduate IPC qualifications
- NHHI Hand Hygiene Auditor/Educator certification or working towards
- Experience in a quality or infection prevention role
