Position Summary
Assistant Principal Special Education at Redbank School, a NSW School for Specific Purposes (SSP) located within the Westmead and Nepean Hospital Precincts. The role supports students in Years 7–12 with complex and diverse mental health needs across three school locations, including adolescent inpatient wards in hospital settings.
Responsibilities
• Engage across multidisciplinary teams and adapt to inpatient education demands;
• Lead, mentor and develop staff through collaborative professional learning, instructional leadership and specialist support;
• Contribute to whole‐school improvement via strategic planning, data‐informed decision making and collaboration with families, external agencies and school teams;
• Support students to re‐engage with learning, build resilience and develop positive pathways for the future, fostering wellbeing, successful transitions and re‐integration into mainstream education.
Specific Selection Criteria
* Experience working within multidisciplinary teams in special education and/or mental health inpatient settings.
* Demonstrated experience supporting students with mental health related needs through the development, implementation and evaluation of personalised, trauma‐informed, evidence‐based practices.
* Capacity to lead, mentor and develop staff through collaborative professional learning and specialised support, fostering a positive, inclusive culture that strengthens staff capability.
* Demonstrated leadership capacity to contribute to whole‐school improvement through strategic planning, data‐informed decision making, effective resource management and collaboration with families, external agencies and school teams.
General Selection Criteria
* Successful teaching experience with the capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare, and the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programmes.
* Educational leadership skills to build capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
* Well‐developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Requirements
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. Candidates without a full approval must commence the application process concurrently with their application for this teaching opportunity.
Vaccination: All Department of Education employees working in an SSP are required to be vaccinated as outlined by the Department. The successful candidate will be required to confirm vaccination status prior to appointment.
