The Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer in our water team, you will take a key role within project teams undertaking the design and assessment of a variety of water and wastewater structures including concrete process tanks, pump stations, reservoirs and associated facilities, and condition assessment of assets.
* Perform advanced structural engineering design tasks on assigned projects under minimal supervision, including engineering drawings, reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies.
* Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for small‐size projects and support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, and participating in client interviews.
* Collaborate with stakeholders in client project requirement meetings, coordination meetings with internal and external consultants, owner and contractor, sub‐contractors, and vendors to prepare and coordinate project specifications.
* Plan, monitor and deliver structural design projects or tasks, coordinating various resources including designers, drafters and other disciplines to deliver structural deliverables to an agreed programme.
* Perform on technically complex projects and act as a technical resource to other team members, project managers and design managers across the water group.
* Apply advanced knowledge of current principles and practices of structural engineering and keep informed of new methods and developments.
* Guide and mentor junior structural engineers, perform critical design checks and apply quality assurance practices to structural design activities.
* Apply knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve complex issues where precedent may be limited.
* Assist and/or lead the development of proposals.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
* Holding or working towards RPEV and/or Chartership is highly regarded.
* Eight years' experience within a consulting engineering practice.
* Involvement in the structural design of civil or industrial infrastructure with a focus on concrete and steel, preferably in a water industry setting.
* Under the supervision of a national team, willingness to develop and expand your structural engineering experience in water and wastewater infrastructure.
* Expertise working with a wide range of clients and stakeholders including local authorities, government bodies and commercial companies.
* Strong ability to prioritise workloads whilst maintaining strong and trusting work relationships with clients and colleagues locally and across the broader Stantec team.
* Strong problem‐solving abilities to develop practical solutions to a variety of structural engineering challenges, both at the desktop and in the field.
* Past site experience, including inspections and construction support, would be highly regarded.
