About The Role
The Special Counsel role will assist the Head of Legal Services (General Counsel) in the provision of strategic legal advice to TasNetworks. In this challenging and rewarding role, you will deliver outcomes‐focused legal advice primarily to the corporate service areas of the business, namely Supply Chain, People Experience, Business Governance, Strategy, Finance, Digital and Customer Services. The role also leads the provision of advice in relation to dispute resolution, privacy and right to information matters. Whilst the focus of the position is in supporting the corporate service functions of the business, many opportunities exist to work on projects and matters of interest across other functional and practice areas (such as energy and electricity regulation).
* potentially leading and managing up to 2 direct reports and mentoring other team members.
* building and maintaining positive and successful relationships across the business, including with senior management.
* acting as a core team member, and frequently independently, to deliver commercial and risk‐calibrated legal advice.
* effectively managing external legal providers.
* managing risk and compliance matters; and
* contributing to delivering the strategy and implementation plans of the legal function.
About You
The successful candidate will have 10 years + of experience in a broad range of practice areas, including, commercial law, privacy, dispute resolution and workplace relations. The role will also require acting as one of TasNetworks' delegated Right to Information officers, so a working knowledge of the Right to Information legislation is highly beneficial. Acting as a Privacy Officer may also be required. Leadership experience, and experience in the energy industry are beneficial but not essential.
