Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a highly effective, dedicated and enthusiastic Education Assistant - Specialised Learning Program - Autism (SLPA) to provide classroom level support to enable the delivery of high quality, student focused learning programs as part of our SLPA.

An appointment to Alkimos College presents an exciting opportunity to join the staff of a new, innovative, state-of-the-art secondary college which is committed to building a culture of high performance and high care for students and staff. Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Each year we have added an additional cohort and have now reached our full complement of Year 7 to 12 in 2025.

Stage 1 buildings include administration, lower school student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, IT labs, technologies workshops, general classrooms, nine science laboratories, and nature play area. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2 (rolled out in 2024), includes a performing arts centre, lecture theatre, senior school student services centre, general classrooms and a new SALP classroom and home room.

The Role

As Special Needs Education Assistant - SLPA, you will support a Specialised Learning Program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and as such should have a sound understanding of ASD; combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with teachers, parents/carers and fellow Education Assistants. You will support teachers to implement evidence-based practice and pedagogy, to meet the needs of students with ASD (without an intellectual disability), in the program, as well as assist teachers in mainstream classes.

In collaboration with teachers, the successful applicant will implement highly personalised learning plans to facilitate access to age-appropriate curriculum. Under limited direction, you will implement evidence-based individualised programs that improve academic engagement, organisational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self-regulation skills.

The successful applicant will ideally have strong interpersonal skills, high levels of personal organisation (including effective record keeping) and the capacity to ensure compliance with college and Department of Education policies and procedures, under the guidance of the Program Coordinator – SLPA.

Please note the position may require you to work with students within the SLPA and across mainstream classes.

* Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
* Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
* Demonstrated ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
* Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
* Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
