Library Assistant

Annual Salary Band: $76,022.96 - $80,943.72 Pro-rata

Position Objective
Assists the City Library to provide an efficient and high standard of service to the Library's clientele and ensure an effective flow of information is provided to the community.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist borrowers to locate information and library materials.
* Explain rules and operation of the library to new borrowers.
* Catalogue both copy and original items, process new items, displays, reservations and new book lists.
* Undertake library duties such as shelving, circulation desk duty, book maintenance.
* Perform customer service, reception, telephone enquiries, administrative support, digital support tasks and cash handling duties.
* Ensure accurate and up‐to‐date information is provided to the public at all times.
* Collect and collate front counter statistics.
* Follow policies and procedures and maintain high level confidentiality.
* Assist with promotional activities, displays, outreach initiatives, marketing and community engagement activities relating to library services and programmes.
* Actively participate in programmed story‐telling sessions on a rostered basis or as required.
* Maintain and showcase creative and emerging technologies and assist the community and staff with their use (e.g. Coding and Robotics (STEM)).
* Support customers in the use of self‐serve technologies, computers, tablets, mobile devices and eBooks.
* Assist in planning, preparing and conducting library activities and programmes for adults, children and youth.
* Assist in the implementation of marketing and promotional programmes.
* Undertake any other lawful and reasonable duties as directed by the supervisor or a more senior officer.
* Work rostered Saturdays and occasionally outside ordinary hours.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience working within a library, customer service, community services or public‐facing environment desired.
* Excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle conflict in an unassuming manner and be solution‐focused.
* Demonstrated digital and administrative skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications, library management systems such as Libero, and the ability to learn new technologies and digital platforms.
* Ability to work in a small team effectively and share relevant information with other team members.
* A genuine interest in community engagement, literacy support, customer service and public library services.
* Time‐management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
* Required to maintain privacy and confidentiality and exercise discretion in a professional manner.
* Basic numeracy skills.
* Understanding of Council policies, procedures and information systems.
* Current Working with Children Blue Card or ability to obtain before commencement.
* Current QLD "C" class Driver's Licence or ability to acquire before commencing in the role.
