**About Our Facility**
Barwon Health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is one of Victoria’s largest regional health services, serving over 500,000 people through the efforts of over 8,000 staff and more than 1200 volunteers. We provide care at all stages or life and circumstance through a wide range of services from emergency and acute to mental health, primary care, community services, aged care, and subacute/rehabilitation. Care is provided to the community through over 28 key locations throughout the region, including the University Hospital Geelong, (one of the busiest Acute hospitals in Victoria), and the McKellar Centre, our sub-Acute site.
Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre is a recently upgraded facility located only minutes from the centre of Geelong. The centre is a 100-bed inpatient facility offering rehabilitation in Palliative care, Geriatric evaluation and management, Stroke, Trauma, orthopaedic and amputee service. The McKellar Centre offers a range of professional aged care services. It is situated on a vibrant community asset with parkland surrounds and incorporates state of the art equipment. Residents have access to a range of Allied Health services, including health-promoting projects which encourage physical activity to optimise wellbeing.
**About the Role**
As the Allied Health Assistant (AHA) you will work within the Physiotherapy and broader inter-disciplinary teams to deliver high quality evidence-based therapy to inpatients at our rehabilitation and acute sites.
As an AHA, you will be referred patients by a Physiotherapist to provide individual therapy, run exercise groups and assist the Physiotherapist with more dependant patients, with the goal of assisting patients to achieve their optimal functional outcomes during their inpatient stay. There is also a non-clinical component to the role (eg. administration, gait-aid and equipment collection and cleaning). You may be responsible for AHA student supervision and mentoring of junior AHA staff. You will receive suitable clinical support from our experienced and skilled Physiotherapy team.
This role may rotate between the University Hospital Geelong and the McKellar Rehabilitation Centre.
The successful applicant will have suitable qualifications that meet the selection criteria, as well as employed experience working in a healthcare setting with patients around exercise.
This is a full time, permanent role working 80 hours per week with an ADO system.
