As our Senior Mechanical Draftsperson, your models and drawings sit at the heart of every project we deliver. You'll work in Autodesk Inventor across a varied pipeline of mining work, partner closely with our engineers, and follow your work from concept through to site — in a role where drafting done well is recognised, relied upon and rewarded, with a clear pathway from contract to permanent.
Opportunity
Pemul is a Western Australian engineering consultancy serving the mining sector. This is a senior design drafting role: you will produce the 3D models, detailed designs and manufacturing documentation that turn our engineers' concepts into buildable equipment and components. You will work primarily in Autodesk Inventor and within our top‐down modelling framework — we will train you in our methods — while our engineers retain responsibility for engineering analysis and design approval. The position is offered initially as a 6‐month contract and is intended to extend and convert to a permanent appointment for the right person.
Key responsibilities
* Developing 3D models, detailed designs and manufacturing drawings in Autodesk Inventor for a range of mining equipment and components
* Working within and contributing to our top‐down modelling methodology and internal CAD standards
* Interpreting engineers' concepts, sketches and markups and translating them into production‐ready documentation
* Applying relevant industry, manufacturing and drawing standards across all deliverables
* Preparing and maintaining bills of materials, drawing registers, revisions and related project documentation
* Incorporating point‐cloud and survey data into models as required
* Liaising with engineers, workshop personnel and clients to clarify requirements and keep projects moving
* Attending client and mine sites for measurement, verification, scanning, installation support and consultation
* Undertaking other reasonable duties consistent with the role and the needs of the business
About you
* Substantial experience as a design draftsperson in mining and/or manufacturing
* Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor is essential
* A strong foundation in top‐down modelling for our methods to build on
* Sound working knowledge of engineering drawing standards and conventions
* Broad understanding of mining and manufacturing equipment and components
* A flexible, collaborative approach and strong communication skills
* A relevant technical qualification — for example an Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Engineering, Mechanical Design or CAD/Drafting
* Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor's simulation and analysis tools
* Experience working with point‐cloud and laser‐scan data
* Prior experience in an engineering consultancy environment
Eligibility and Requirements
Currently based in the Perth metropolitan area / Western Australia — this is a Perth-based, on‐site role
Full, unrestricted working rights in Australia — visa sponsorship is not available for this position
Willing and able to attend client and mine sites, including regional and remote Western Australian locations, and to meet the associated site induction, medical and PPE requirements
