We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our dynamic and professional kitchen team.
We are looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative kitchen, demonstrates leadership, and brings both creativity and discipline to their craft. The successful candidate will be dedicated to maintaining high culinary standards, safety compliance, and efficiency in our busy, fast‑paced environment.
Position Duties
- Plan and develop menu items in collaboration with management, considering seasonal availability, customer preferences, and dietary needs.
- Prepare, cook, and present a range of Chinese dishes with consistency and attention to quality and taste.
- Monitor portion control, food presentation, and food safety standards throughout service.
- Estimate food and supply requirements, manage inventory, and ensure proper stock rotation and storage.
- Apply appropriate preservation techniques, including freezing, refrigeration, and dry storage, to maximise ingredient shelf life, reduce waste, and maintain food safety.
- Lead and mentor junior kitchen staff and apprentices, demonstrating techniques and maintaining kitchen standards.
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene, safety regulations, and cleanliness across all kitchen operations.
- Participate in the recruitment, training, and performance management of kitchen staff.
- Manage kitchen equipment maintenance and ensure a clean, hygienic, and organised workspace.
- Collaborate with front‑of‑house teams to coordinate timely and efficient service.
- Contribute to cost control, minimising food waste, and upholding operational efficiency.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Chef in a busy restaurant environment.
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery and Diploma of Hospitality Management (or equivalent).
- Preferably understanding of Asian cuisine and modern cooking techniques.
- Proven ability to manage kitchen operations, including staff supervision and inventory.
- Ability to maintain high standards under pressure during peak service times.
- Strong communication and time‑management skills.
- Positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to work across adaptable shifts, including weekends, lunch, and dinner.
- Food Safety and Food Handling certifications are required.
Salary: AUD $78,000 – $80,000 plus superannuation (depending on experience).
