Health Education Officer – Part‐time
Location: Port Macquarie & Mid‐North Coast.
Salary: $32.77 - $47.39 per hour (equivalent to $64,985 - $93,974 annually for a 19‐hour week).

Role Overview
Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) Mental Health Services is building a professional Suicide Prevention Peer Workforce that supports people experiencing suicidal crisis and distress. The Peer Workforce is comprised of employees who have lived experience of mental ill health, suicide and recovery, in addition to life and work skills, and provides peer support and guidance to clients and stakeholders.
The Suicide Prevention Outreach Service (SPOT) is part of the Towards Zero Suicides Initiative and aims to reduce deaths by suicide and suicide attempts by providing rapid, appropriate and compassionate support to people at risk of suicide in the community.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a quality service, in cooperation and collaboration with other relevant services and agencies.
* Engage with individuals experiencing suicidal crisis and provide peer support and guidance to facilitate recovery and wellness.
* Work on a roster that includes after hours, weekends and public holidays (service operates 7 days a week).
* Collaborate with clinicians to provide recovery‐oriented and trauma‐informed care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
* Understanding of and commitment to consumer‐led recovery principles with the ability to utilise personal lived and living experience to constructively support others with their own mental health journey.
* Ability to utilise the lived experience of suicide to support others with their own mental health recovery journey, whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness.
* Must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. Applicants must provide a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.
* Valid authority to work in Australia (Aust Work Rights Visa) and must attach to application.
