They’re looking for Full Stack engineers with strong technical expertise to influence architectural decisions, drive AI integration, and collaborate with stakeholders to shape the bank’s tech strategy.
As an Engineering Manager – Chapter Lead, you’ll combine strong technical leadership with people management to drive innovation and growth. You’ll guide a team of engineers, shape tech strategy, influence architecture and design decisions, and prioritise delivery roadmaps. Your role is key in fostering a high‑performing, forward‑thinking engineering culture while aligning technical execution with business goals.
Qualifications & Expectations
- Can build, lead, and inspire an engaged team of engineers, while fostering an engineering culture of excellence and Psychological Safety.
- Contribute to CommBank’s Engineering Management Practice by coaching and mentoring engineers and raising the bar for the discipline across the organisation.
- Effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice.
- Promote open communication and create a secure working environment where our engineers’ voices are recognised thereby achieving great outcomes for our organisation, our customers, and the community.
- Drive operational excellence and support teams in charge of mission‑critical production services with diverse stakeholders and complex dependencies.
- Encourage risk‑taking and constructive challenges, while growing diverse and inclusive teams.
- Establish innovative ways of working, successfully advocating for new technology approaches, and possess the experience to understand the architectural integration of new software solutions.
Tech Skills
- Back‑end: strong hands‑on experience with Java or C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core
- Sound knowledge of large‑scale distributed systems, microservices, and Rest API integration
- Databases – PostgreSQL, Oracle
- DevOps and CI/CD – GitHub Actions, TeamCity
- Docker and Kubernetes experience
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus/Grafana, Observe, AWS CloudWatch
- AI & Machine learning and LLM knowledge is desired
- GenAI tools – Cline, Cursor, AWS Bedrock
- Expertise with Security Engineering principles and implementation
- Cloud native development – AWS preferred, with AWS Certification a bonus
- Understanding on DevSecOps environment and landscape, SRE practices
- Working with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Octopus etc.
- Leveraging IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
- Driving quality with modern automated testing
- Designing robust systems and solutions with a focus on security and scalability
- Promoting code quality through peer programming, code reviews, and automated release pipelines
- Mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers
