Instrument Technician – Oceanographic Equipment

We are looking for an Instrument Technician to work on Oceanographic Equipment.

Maritime's purpose is to provide and enable safe, accessible, and sustainable use of navigable waters and to collaboratively plan, drive and deliver best practice in maritime development and management for the state. Key functions include strategic planning of coastal development, management of coastal facilities, environmental emergency response, port operations, waterways safety education and the collection and provision of coastal and marine data to support these functions.

The opportunity

Are you a qualified Electronics, Electrical or Instrumentation Technician or Engineer, ideally with previous field experience to work in Maritime? If you are ready for a sea change, then read on....

Oceanographic Services is a team of specialist technical staff who are responsible for the acquisition, analysis and management of oceanographic information collected from a range of oceanographic instrumentation.

The Oceanographic Technicians travel along the WA coastline using 4WDs and boats to maintain service delivery of the instrumentation and data communication systems for the oceanographic data collection program. An example of the instrumentation includes:

* Dataloggers
* Modems / telemetry systems.
* Wave buoys.
* Wave buoy receiving stations.
* Acoustic Wave and Current units.

The role involves

Maintenance and Operations – routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of field equipment. Installing, setting up of tide gauges, wave buoy station and other equipment. Configuration of components, such as Datataker and Campbell Scientific data loggers, Vega Radar Sensors, Comset modems and associated data communications systems used for data collection networks.

* Quality Control and Continuous services – Manage data collection network quality through remote monitoring, diagnose and triage faults, and respond to incidents to ensure continued services.
* Documentation and Reporting – Prepare operational and technical maintenance reports and associated documentation. Develop and manage work schedule. Manage assets, replacements, and stock take.
* Liaison and Representation – Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders and contractors for site usage, installation and maintenance procedures, retrieval, and setup of assets and equipment.

About You

* Suitable qualified, with technical capabilities, and open to work in a maritime coastal environment.
* Innovative, with an affinity to proactively research, investigate and resolve problems or implement solutions.
* Willing to work in regional locations and to travel and see the WA coastline.
