AECOM - Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer
We are inviting candidates to join our Civil Infrastructure, Geotechnical Engineering and Tunnelling Team based in South-East Queensland, supporting projects across infrastructure, transportation, water, dams, buildings, energy and environmental sectors throughout Australia, New Zealand and internationally.
As part of a collaborative high‐performing team, you will support the delivery of geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design solutions for a wide range of projects. You will balance hands‐on fieldwork with technical office work, progressing from field investigations to design and construction reporting.
Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate, and undertake geotechnical site investigations, including drilling supervision, sampling, and in‐situ testing.
* Perform soil profiling and rock core logging in accordance with Australian Standard AS 1726:2017.
* Collect and manage soil and rock samples and coordinate laboratory testing programs.
* Prepare factual and interpretive reports.
* Conduct desktop studies, review data, interpret results, and prepare technical documentation.
* Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams to resolve geotechnical challenges.
* Assist with tender submissions and proposals, including scope development and preliminary cost estimates.
* Support geotechnical analyses for foundations, slope stability, pavement designs, earthworks, and other geo‐structures.
* Ensure all work complies with relevant standards, guidelines, and safety procedures.
Qualifications
* 2‐10 years of experience in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering, ideally in a consulting environment.
* Relevant tertiary degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline and current or pursuing registration (RPGeo, CPEng, or RPEQ) or eligibility through mutual recognition pathways.
* Willingness to undertake regular fieldwork and travel when required.
* Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, and site investigation practices.
* Familiarity with geotechnical software such as OpenGround / gINT, Rocscience, GeoStudio, PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, Leapfrog or similar, and AutoCAD is highly regarded.
* Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Current ClassC driver's licence.
