Based in Canberra, the role involves sourcing, writing and producing compelling, exclusive multimedia journalism that reaches millions of Australians. The reporter must be passionate, self‐driven, and able to chase ideas to develop unique angles.
Responsibilities
* Identify and develop stories across a range of political and public policy topics, producing accurate, clean copy.
* Drive subscription growth for the print and digital masthead and increase traffic to the website.
* Lead and inspire digital content through high‐quality story development.
* Use data analytics to find new trends, track performance, and deliver engaging content.
* Build genuine connections within the political community and maintain an interest in public policy and the contest of ideas.
* Harness digital storytelling tools (interactives, video, graphics).
Qualifications
* Previous writing and newsroom experience, with an understanding of politics and the law‐making process.
* Established network in the community and ability or willingness to live in Canberra or commute during federal parliamentary sittings.
* Excellent interviewing skills and natural curiosity to discover impactful stories.
* Strong attention to detail, excellent spelling and grammar.
* SEO and social media experience is an advantage.
* Comfortable in a fast‐paced, deadline‐driven environment.
* Passionate about advocating and voicing community perspectives.
