Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology – John Hunter Hospital

John Hunter Hospital, a leading tertiary referral centre in the Hunter New England Local Health District, is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated consultant to join the Maternity and Gynaecology team. This fixed‑term temporary full‑time position (12 months, part‑time hours may be considered) offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a high‑quality, patient‑centred service within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide high‑level clinical care and leadership in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, or combined Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
* Participate in the on‑call roster, ensuring 24/7 coverage for acute obstetric and gynaecological services.
* Supervise and support junior medical staff and actively participate in teaching and research activities.
* Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
* Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to deliver multidisciplinary care.


Essential Criteria

* Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
* Registration (or ability for registration) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
* Extensive expertise in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, or both, with a strong clinical background in managing complex cases.
* Commitment to teaching, research and ongoing professional development.
* Demonstrated ability to work within a team and provide leadership in a multidisciplinary setting.

For eligible International Medical Graduates (IMG) seeking specialist registration in Australia, this pathway offers a streamlined route for advanced practices. Eligibility requires holding a specialist qualification on the Medical Board's Expedited Specialist Pathway accepted qualifications list. Qualified International Medical Graduates can begin supervised practice within six (6) months after registration approval.
