Our client, a growing and innovative manufacturer, is seeking a Junior Product Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Northamptonshire. The successful candidate will support the development of new products and design improvements, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to deliver practical and cost‐effective solutions.
Position: Permanent | Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 (DOE) | Working Hours: Monday to Friday | Location: Northamptonshire
Job Description
* Support the design and development of new products from concept through to production
* Create and maintain accurate 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings
* Assist in the development of prototypes and product testing activities
* Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and cost‐effective to produce
* Participate in design reviews and contribute innovative ideas for product improvements
* Produce technical documentation including specifications, bills of materials, and test reports
* Assist with engineering change requests and product modifications
* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, specifications, and company procedures
* Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders throughout the product development process
Essential Experience / Skills / Qualifications
* Degree in Product Design Engineering, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
* Ideally a First-Class or 2:1 degree classification
* Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar
* Good understanding of product development processes and engineering principles
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
* Strong problem‐solving skills and attention to detail
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
* Placement year, internship, or graduate project experience within a manufacturing or product development environment
* Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles
* Experience with prototyping, testing, and product validation activities
* Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems
