The Debt Collection Specialist supports the Business Manager of the College in the delivery of strong financial sustainability and accountability. This position is designed to assist the College in obtaining payments from families (debtors) in a manner consistent with the values and ethos of Catholic Education NT. The person in this role will have the authority to manage referred debt in its entirety in line with the CENT debtor policy and will work closely with the College Principal and Finance Team. This includes providing recommendations, negotiating payment plans, and the escalation of debt to collection agencies. Strong communication skills and high levels of confidentiality will be crucial.
Essential Criteria:
* Qualifications in finance, business administration, or a related field or working towards the required qualification.
* Proven experience in accounts receivable, preferably in a school or similar not-for-profit environment.
* Strong understanding of financial management, accounts receivable, and debt collection processes.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and potentially confrontational situations with tact and empathy.
* Proficiency in using accounts receivable software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
* Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
* High level of integrity, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality.
* Familiarity with the values and teachings of the Catholic Church and a commitment to upholding them in all professional interactions.
* NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience working in a Catholic school or similar faith-based institution.
* Knowledge of local community resources and assistance programs for families in financial distress.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions for fee recovery.
* A working knowledge of Technology One.
