About the role
Are you a storyteller at heart who loves bringing people together through great communication? The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is looking for a passionate Communications & Engagement Officer to help connect communities with the transport projects shaping Western Australia’s future. In this exciting role, you’ll be part of a team that keeps the public informed, inspired, and engaged as we deliver major infrastructure projects that move WA forward—literally and figuratively.
As a valued member of our Customer Strategy and Communications team, you’ll design and deliver creative campaigns that capture attention and build trust. You’ll work hand-in-hand with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders across all levels of government to share stories that matter—highlighting the people, progress, and purpose behind our projects. From crafting vibrant content to responding to community questions and preparing communication strategies, you’ll be at the heart of how we connect with our audiences and champion PTA’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and service excellence.
Our ideal candidate is someone who thrives on connection and communication—an adaptable professional with proven experience in public relations, communications, or community engagement, particularly within infrastructure communication. You’re confident delivering clear, engaging messages across multiple platforms, calm under pressure, and genuine in your approach to community engagement. With your organisational flair, curiosity, and can‑do attitude, you’ll shine in a fast‑paced, supportive environment where collaboration and creativity are celebrated. If you’re ready to use your skills to make a real difference in the lives of Western Australians, join us in telling the story of a transport network built for everyone.
About You
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Significant experience in public relations/communications experience, with expertise in delivering project and infrastructure communications, including:
- A proven ability to concisely and clearly deliver a broad range of communications, including print, online, social media and face‑to‑face, to effectively meet project objectives.
- Experience in responding to community enquiries and complaints in a timely and professional manner including face‑to‑face, online and via phone.
- The ability to negotiate and liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships, manage issues effectively, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
