Sorby Hills is Australia's largest undeveloped near‐surface lead–silver deposit, supported by granted mining leases, EPA approval, and proximity to established infrastructure, including Wyndham Port only 150 km away.
With permitting and infrastructure already in place, Sorby Hills is uniquely positioned for fast‐track production. Alongside Sorby Hills, Boab is actively exploring its 100%-owned Manbarrum and Eight Mile Creek prospects, strengthening our growth pipeline across the region.
About the position for Sorby Hills Project
Boab Metals Limited is seeking an experienced and proactive Site Safety Manager to lead and drive the safety function during the development, construction, and project delivery phases of the Sorby Hills Project and mining and production phase, on a 2:2 or 8:6 roster pattern. Reporting to the Site SSE Manager and Project Director, this critical leadership role is responsible for embedding a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and aligning site practices with industry best standards across a high‐risk, multi‐contractor environment. You will establish and enforce a best‐in‐class construction safety framework, driving robust safety systems, behaviours, and critical risk controls to ensure all work is executed safely and efficiently.
Key roles and responsibilities
* Provide strong, visible safety leadership across all construction activities and work fronts
* Drive a Zero Harm culture with a focus on Critical Risk Management from mobilisation through to commissioning
* Lead daily safety engagement including pre‐starts, field interactions, and leadership presence on site
* Identify, manage, and control high‐risk construction activities (heights, lifting, structural steel, mobile plant, confined space, electrical/commissioning)
* Implement and verify Critical Controls, Life‐Saving Rules, and permit‐to‐work systems (SWMS, JHAs)
* Manage safety performance across multiple contractors and EPCM interfaces
* Ensure contractor compliance through prequalification, onboarding, audits, and ongoing performance reviews
* Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Construction HSE Management Plan
* Ensure compliance with WA WHS legislation, mining regulations, and project conditions
* Lead site assurance activities including inspections, audits, and critical control verifications
* Oversee incident and near‐miss investigations (ICAM or equivalent), ensuring root cause analysis and close‐out of actions
* Monitor safety trends and implement proactive risk reduction strategies, including emergency preparedness
* Lead safety training, inductions, and competency frameworks across the workforce
* Coach and mentor supervisors and frontline leaders in safety leadership and risk management
* Bring proven experience as a Safety/HSE Manager in mining, construction or project delivery, with strong contractor management and deep understanding of high‐risk environments
Skills and Experience
* Minimum 10+ years experience as a Site HSE/Safety Manager on mining, construction or project delivery phases
* Strong contractor safety management experience
* Expertise in critical risk and control verification
* Solid knowledge of WA WHS and mining/construction regulations
* Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
* ICAM (or similar) investigation certification
* Strong leadership, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
* Highly visible, field‐based safety approach
* Ability to work in a remote FIFO environment
* Must hold Australian citizenship or permanent residency with full working rights
