Senior Systems Programmer – Information Technology Infrastructure Group Join the University of Queensland ( UQ ) as a Senior Systems Programmer in the Information Technology Infrastructure Group (ITIG). ITIG supports faculty systems across the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT).

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and support faculty infrastructure and services, primarily Windows systems (AD, SCCM, GPOs, WSUS, etc.) and Unix web/database applications.

Troubleshoot complex technical issues reported via helpdesk or frontline staff.

Plan, deploy and review monitoring strategies for mission‑critical systems, services and processes.

Support physical hardware, VMware/SmartOS guests, operating systems and key services for reliability, redundancy and continuity.

Foster relationships within the UQ IT community.

Identify opportunities to improve systems or processes and develop new services/facilities to enhance teaching, research and learning missions.

Perform additional duties as reasonably directed.

About You

A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software or Computer Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline with at least four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to create explicit documentation and standards; interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

Experience in a second‑tier technical support team or equivalent, with strong troubleshooting, problem resolution, judgement and lateral thinking.

Solid skills in at least one programming language and familiarity with PHP, C/C++, C#, Perl, PowerShell, Python, Erlang, SQL, JavaScript, etc.

Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols (networks, VLANs, routing, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, etc.) and security concepts (encryption, SQL injection, XSS/CSRF, etc.).

Understanding of development and debugging practices (code versioning, browser dev tools, debuggers, server‑side logging, network packet capture, etc.).

Must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of the appointment. Employer sponsored work rights are not available.

Salary: $102,565.37 – $111,686.39 plus 17% superannuation (HEW Level 7)
