Our client, a major federal government agency is seeking a seasoned Senior Java Software Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role demands a passionate technologist who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to advancing the Agency applications reforms.
As part of a cross-functional delivery team, you will be pivotal in delivering sophisticated pipeline and API code, ensuring robust system performance, and managing technical releases. Your expertise will contribute directly to safeguarding national security and enhancing the agency's technological capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop high-quality pipeline and API code following approved designs and industry best practices.
* Coordinate technical releases including weekly deployments and client cutovers.
* Monitor and proactively manage potential API outages affecting internal and external clients.
* Collaborate with analysts and testers to define feature files detailing data processing logic.
* Perform additional technical tasks as necessary to support broader business objectives.
Required Experience & Skills
* A minimum of 5 years in senior software engineering roles with proven leadership skills.
* Proficiency in Java development with strong understanding of continuous delivery tools such as Jenkins.
* Commercial experience with Apache Spark, Kafka, and the Elastic stack (Kibana, Logstash, Elasticsearch).
* Experience with containerisation technologies, including Rancher and Kubernetes.
* Expertise in designing efficient data processing algorithms, working with SQL and NoSQL databases, and optimising application performance.
* Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and strong stakeholder engagement capabilities.
Qualifications & Security
* Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
* Ability to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance prior to commencement.
This role offers a hybrid working model based in Canberra or Sydney, requiring attendance at the agency's premises at least two days per week. The client values flexibility and operational commitment to meet mission-critical demands.
