Volunteer Seamstress / Sewing Support (Eco Fashion Week Project)
Help our residents bring sustainable fashion to life! We're looking for a friendly, patient volunteer seamstress (or confident sewer) to support our residents as they prepare a creative project for Eco Fashion Week. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your sewing skills, connect with older people, and help create something meaningful and fun—using recycled and repurposed materials.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside the Lifestyle team to support residents with activities such as helping them hand‐sew or machine‐sew simple items (as appropriate).
* Assist with repairs, hemming, basic alterations, or upcycling garments.
* Support eco‐fashion creations (e.g., accessories, fabric flowers, patchwork, simple costumes).
* Encourage resident participation, conversation and creativity.
* Help set up and pack down materials (optional).
Who we're looking for
* Has sewing skills (machine or hand sewing) – all levels welcome.
* Is kind, reliable and enjoys working with older people.
* Can support residents at different ability levels (some may need hands‐on guidance).
* Is happy to work as part of a team with Lifestyle staff.
What we'll provide
* A warm welcome and support from the Lifestyle team.
* All materials (or we can accept donated fabric/offcuts if approved).
* Orientation and guidance on working safely in an aged‐care setting.
* A meaningful experience helping residents shine during Eco Fashion Week.
Requirements
* To keep everyone safe, volunteers will need to meet standard aged‐care volunteer requirements, which may include a current police check (or willingness to obtain one).
* Evidence of required vaccinations (as applicable).
* Completing a short volunteer onboarding/orientation.
Commitment
Regular – more than 6 months.
Training
We will guide you through the volunteer process.
