Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services (. We are currently looking for a TBM Superintendent to join our team for a Heavy Civil Construction Project in Cooma, NSW.
Location
Cooma, NSW (100% On-site).
Estimated Duration
24 months. In general, when the project ends, we try to relocate the employee to other projects to ensure continuity.
Summary
The TBM Superintendent manages equipment commissioning and decommissioning, oversees utility and services installation, and leads daily supervision and coordination of heavy construction and tunnel equipment.
Responsibilities
* Requisition project materials, equipment, and services as required.
* Interpret the intent and requirements of design documentation and information.
* Perform technical administration of contracts related to equipment and plant.
* Control all equipment owned or leased by the company for the project.
* Prepare and update operating costs and rental rates for bids and estimators.
* Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance requirements.
* Apply and maintain working knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
* Enforce site safety at all times.
* Work effectively under pressure, coordinating multiple activities and teams to maximize efficiency.
* Develop and maintain business relationships with workers, manufacturers, dealers, project managers, equipment managers, and subcontractors.
* Support work areas to ensure management plans and strategies are implemented, maintained, reviewed, and corrective actions are closed out promptly.
* Ensure shift reports accurately reflect daily production.
* Document and communicate changes to systems and processes.
* Review design drawings, provide input, and verify practical application.
* Monitor construction progress against forecasts; advise the Construction Manager of deviations or variances.
* Identify and resolve IR/ER issues, escalating serious matters to the Construction Manager and IR Manager as appropriate.
* Foster a teamwork culture, ensuring site teams cooperate and integrate effectively with wider project teams.
* Manage direct reports to ensure competence, accountability, and alignment with project performance measures.
Requirements
* A minimum of 8 years of experience as a TBM Superintendent/Equipment/Plant Manager in tunnels/underground/heavy civil construction projects or similar.
* Trade certification or tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
* Hands‑on experience in the operation and maintenance of at least one project using a pressurized‑face Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with skills in data and file recording.
* Strong knowledge of fixed plant systems.
* Experience managing major tunnelling support plants, such as slurry plants and waste treatment facilities.
* Ability to supervise team members and collaborate with safety and other departments to maintain project safety standards.
* Positive "can‑do" attitude with strong initiative and proactive nature.
* Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
* Sound knowledge of civil construction materials and services.
* Strong understanding of local WHS standards and regulations.
* Process‑oriented, with the ability to analyze complex issues.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
* Skilled at meeting deadlines and targets, prioritizing tasks under pressure.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
* Ability to learn and use different software systems, including E7.
Working Hours
14/7 rotational 12-hour shifts- Day/Night.
