The opportunity
As a Senior Consultant or Manager, you'll provide actuarial consulting to clients across the private and government sectors, specialising in General Insurance and/or Private Health Insurance. Your responsibilities include managing projects, delivering results, and providing strategic advice that helps clients handle risk, optimise performance, and develop growth strategies.
Your key responsibilities
* Forge strategic partnerships with a diverse range of clients, making a significant impact in both the public and private sectors.
* Collaborate across our broader Financial Services practice, including strategy, transactions, tax, technology, and risk professionals.
* Engage in a variety of projects – from business transformation, capital and risk management, pricing, and product innovation to liability valuation and appointed actuary work.
* Develop and implement actuarial models and methodologies, analyse and interpret data to uncover insights for informed decision‐making.
* Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory and legislative changes, and contribute to business thought leadership.
* Champion continuous improvement and shape future processes, tools, and analytical approaches.
Skills and attributes for success
* Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field. Completed, or progressing towards, a professional actuarial qualification (e.g., FIAA), with 2 to 8 years of professional experience.
* Skills and Abilities: Proven analytical and problem‐solving skills; strong quantitative abilities; proficiency with actuarial software and techniques using Excel, SAS, R, and Python; excellent communication for building client relationships.
* Industry Knowledge: In‐depth understanding of general insurance and/or private health insurance, with experience in product development, pricing, claims and reserving, underwriting, reinsurance, capital and risk management, and IFRS 17.
* Project Management and Leadership: Ability to manage projects, develop new business opportunities, and mentor junior staff; initiative and proactiveness.
* Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Comfortable with complexity in a dynamic, technology‐driven environment; commitment to staying up‐to‐date on market trends and regulatory changes.
