Position Duties and Tasks:
Inspection of Animals and Meat Products:
Inspect animals at the feedlot and meat processing facility for signs of disease, injury, or non-compliance with health and welfare regulations.
Monitor the transport and handling of animals to ensure that all practices are humane and follow regulatory requirements
Audit and Monitor Quality Procedures:
Audit and monitor compliance with industry standards and regulations across the beef feedlot and meat processing facilities.
Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to quality, safety, and hygiene are being followed by all employees.
Compliance with Health, Safety, and Hygiene Standards:
Ensure that all areas of the facility, including the feedlot, comply with health, safety, and biosecurity regulations.
Advise management and staff on best practices for hygiene and biosecurity, including the prevention of disease spread.
Disease Control:
Monitor livestock and products for signs of pests and diseases, implementing strategies for eradication when necessary.
Provide guidance on pest control and biosecurity measures to ensure animals and products are protected from contamination.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, sample testing, and compliance reports.
Monitor and document the outcomes of implemented corrective actions and ensure they meet required standards.
Educating and Enforcing Compliance:
Educate staff and operators on compliance with animal welfare, health, and safety regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Agriculture, or a related field.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience in animal health inspection, biosecurity, or quality control within a meat processing facility, feedlot, or agricultural environment.
Skills:
Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations related to livestock
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify health and quality issues in animals
Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to address health and safety issues.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoors.
Capable of handling physically demanding tasks such as animal inspections and sample collection.
Availability:
Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and in response to emergencies.
Relevant Knowledge Areas:
Animal Disease Prevention:
Knowledge of common diseases affecting livestock and their impact on public health and the economy.
Biosecurity Protocols:
Familiarity with biosecurity procedures for preventing the spread of diseases in livestock facilities.
Working Conditions:
The role involves working in outdoor feedlots with exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $76,****** – $80,****** per year
