The Opportunity

This is a dynamic opportunity to play a pivotal role within Acenda Group's Internal Audit function, delivering independent, objective, and highly valued assurance across governance, risk management, and control environments. As part of a high-performing and collaborative team, you will gain enterprise-wide exposure, engaging directly with senior leaders, executives, and the Board. This role goes beyond traditional auditing, championing innovative, data-driven, and agile approaches that elevate the function's impact, while producing insightful reporting that shapes strategic decisions and strengthens organisational resilience.

In this role, you will lead and contribute to complex audit engagements, providing deep, evidence-based insights that address root causes, enhance risk awareness, and drive meaningful business improvements. Your work will be characterised by strong stakeholder partnership, commercial acumen, and a commitment to quality-ensuring findings are authoritative, actionable, and aligned to risk priorities. You will also play a key role in mentoring team members, uplifting capability, and helping embed contemporary audit practices, including advanced data analytics and emerging technologies, to deliver forward-thinking assurance.

With your extensive experience in internal audit, ideally within financial services or life insurance, you bring a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, risk culture, and control environments, complemented by expertise in areas such as J-SOX, technology auditing, and data analytics. A confident communicator and trusted advisor, you will influence senior stakeholders, contribute to the audit plan, and collaborate with external assurance providers to ensure comprehensive coverage across the business. How will you make an impact?

* Build and maintain strong, professional stakeholder relationships, balancing empathy with clear positioning of Internal Audit's role.
* Deliver and oversee audit assignments in line with established methodologies, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and professionally executed work.
* Produce insightful, evidence-based findings that are thorough, data-driven, commercially relevant, and focused on root causes rather than symptoms.
* Ensure audit outcomes drive accountability, strengthen risk awareness, and secure management commitment to remediation actions.
* Provide practical advice and actively follow up on the implementation of agreed improvements.
* Coach and develop Internal Audit team members, uplifting capability and ensuring consistent delivery to high professional standards.
* Contribute to the development of the annual, risk-based Internal Audit Plan in collaboration with senior stakeholders and governance committees.
* Lead or support complex and special audit engagements across the organisation.
* Support reporting to the Chief Audit Executive, Board, and Audit Committees, delivering clear insights on key risks, trends, and unresolved issues.
* Collaborate with external auditors and assurance providers to ensure comprehensive coverage of the organisation's risk and control environment.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

* Minimum 7 years' assurance experience, ideally in Internal Audit, with proven ability to lead a portfolio of audits; Life Insurance experience highly regarded
* Strong understanding of the financial services industry, including regulators and evolving regulatory requirements
* Experience with Japanese Sarbanes-Oxley (J-SOX), considered highly desirable and a key success factor
* Exposure to technology auditing and data analytics, with awareness of advanced data techniques (e.g. machine learning, AI) advantageous
* Comprehensive knowledge of internal and external audit methodologies, with a demonstrated ability to deliver value-added outcomes
* Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
* Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate operational and emerging risks within business areas
* Established internal audit professional network and engagement with relevant industry bodies viewed favourably
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing and engaging executives and senior leaders
* Demonstrated customer service orientation and ability to build effective, professional relationships

Qualifications

* Degree in Accounting, Finance, IT, or a related field
* Internal Audit or related certifications (e.g. CIA, CISA, IIA membership) desirable
