We have a strong track record of registrars successfully securing accredited General Surgery Education and Training (GSET) positions. You'll be guided at every step— CV preparation, research opportunities, exam preparation, portfolio development, mock interviews, and referee support.
Unlike many other Unaccredited General Surgery Registrar positions, our General Surgery registrars will undertake a full year of General Surgery with requirement to undertake relief, cover or other sub-specialty training terms.
University Hospital Geelong has dedicated Colorectal, Upper GI, Hepatobiliary, Endocrine and Breast Surgeons which allows registrars exposure to sub-speciality General Surgery rotations.
You'll benefit from a structured teaching program mapped directly to the General Surgery Fellowship Curriculum, including weekly tutorials, case discussions, and surgical skills workshops. GSSE-specific tutorials, study groups, and exam coaching, mock interviews and portfolio review sessions led by experienced surgical educators. Research, Audit and Academic Mentorship are also available.

Training is conducted primarily in the South West Regional Training Hub where GSET training occurs under the jurisdiction of RACS and GSA with a very high pass rate of the part 2 fellowship at the first attempt and exceptional fellowship exam preparation.

Your training year will be purposefully designed to ensure you meet all SET prerequisites, including high-quality supervised operating exposure, involvement in trauma, acute surgery, elective general surgery, and endoscopy, and leadership and team‐management opportunities.
Your Opportunity
Responsibilities
* Undertake regular assessment and performance review, actively participate in unit and facility based educational programs and meet mandatory training requirements.
* Role model professionalism with respect to confidentiality, patient dignity, effective communication at primary patient care level and with staff, and the completion/maintenance of accurate and comprehensive medical records.
* Actively participate in teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff, Medical Students and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Undertake skills-based training to support this role.
* Contribute to a positive organizational culture, role model appropriate behavior in accordance with the Code of Conduct for the Victorian Public Service and provide Senior representation on hospital committees.
* May be required to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, and/or be on-call including contribution to the General Surgery After Hours and Weekends Roster. There is minimal cover roles in this position.
