Position Summary
The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission is looking for a high‐performing regulatory economist to join our economics team as they undertake economic research and analysis, and prepare clear, evidence‐based reports in support of the commission's decisions on the economic regulation in the ACT. As an Assistant Director, you will work with the Director to lead and supervise a team of specialists with economic, analytical, quantitative and industry expertise to provide advice to the commission on economic regulation and competition issues. You will be able to make a tangible impact on the welfare of ACT consumers by applying your skills and experience with a focus on water and electricity price regulation, among a range of other competition matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise a team of specialists in economic research and analysis.
* Prepare clear, evidence‐based reports to support the commission's decisions on economic regulation in the ACT.
* Provide advice on economic regulation and competition issues.
* Apply skills and experience with a focus on water and electricity price regulation and other competition matters.
Eligibility & Other Requirements
* A thorough understanding of economic concepts and practical experience in applying economic concepts.
* A degree in economics and/or finance is highly desirable; post‐graduate qualifications in similar areas will be highly regarded.
* A strong advantage would be the ability to quickly develop a good understanding of utility pricing and regulatory issues.
* Experience with, or a demonstrated willingness to develop proficiency in, data analytics and visualisation tools such as R or Power BI.
