About the Role
As Editor, you will oversee all editorial content for the Gunnedah Times, setting editorial standards, and ensuring the paper continues to deliver high-quality, accurate and engaging journalism. You will also work closely with the Managing Editor to support the delivery of all Collective Media publications.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a rapid-paced environment and is passionate about telling the stories that matter to the Gunnedah Shire community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and manage the editorial team.
- Plan, review and oversee content for print and digital platforms.
- Write, edit and proofread news, features and opinion pieces as required.
- Maintain strong relationships with community leaders, businesses and stakeholders.
- Uphold high editorial, ethical and legal standards.
- Represent the publication at events and community engagements.
- Ensure deadlines are met for both print and digital production.
- Work closely with advertising, digital and design teams.
- Contribute to digital strategy and audience growth.
- Manage editorial resources and work within budget.
About You
You will bring:
- Proven experience in journalism, with previous editorial or senior reporting experience (regional experience ideal).
- Strong writing, editing and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication and people skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, juggle deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- A passion for community-driven reporting and strong news judgement.
- Solid understanding of CMS, social media and digital news environments.
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications or related fields.
- Knowledge of SEO and digital audience strategies.
