Job Description
The Role
We are seeking a Business Development Specialist to lead origination and project development activity from our Melbourne office, with a primary focus on Infrastructure including power generation, decarbonization, and digital infrastructure. (www.mitsui.com/au/en/business/1216607_9180.html) Reporting to the General Manager, Infrastructure & Energy Division, and working closely with the Mitsui Head Office in Tokyo and the regional headquarters in Singapore, you will play a meaningful role in shaping the division's growth.
Day to day, you will:
* Participate in discussions with industry participants, regulators and advisors to identify new opportunities.
* Identify and develop potential business opportunities and pitch to internal stakeholders including the General Manager.
* Develop and maintain relationships with developers, partners, investors and advisors.
* Conduct preliminary commercial assessments including high-level financial analysis and identification of key risks and value drivers.
* Support ongoing project development and transaction processes, including due diligence coordination and preparation of internal approval documents.
* Collaborate with internal teams and other divisions to identify synergies and cross-divisional opportunities.
* Liaise closely with Mitsui Head Office in Tokyo to ensure alignment on strategy, investment priorities, and project evaluation approach.
* Support coordination and communication between local project stakeholders, Head Office, and the regional headquarter in Singapore throughout opportunity sourcing and project development processes.
* Support decarbonisation-related projects including hydrogen, ammonia, ACCUs and biofuels.
* Conduct market research and generate insights on key sectors.
* Translate market analysis into actionable insights for business development.
* Provide structured updates and insights to Head Office and global teams.
Desired Skills and Experience
The Person
We are looking for someone who brings:
* A tertiary qualification in business, international studies or a related discipline.
* Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment, including collaboration with teams in Japan, Singapore and other global offices.
* Experience in project development role or a similar role within the infrastructure or energy sectors.
* Strong commercial acumen with basic financial modelling capability and experience in commercial assessment.
* Excellent communication skills in English for business discussions, report writing and stakeholder coordination.
* High level ofpresentation and design skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
* A proactive, flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
* High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
