The Centre for Advanced Transport Engineering and Research (C.A.T.E.R.) is a multi-disciplined engineering company based in Wangara (Perth northern suburbs), specializing in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of advanced rail inspection and condition monitoring systems.

We are currently seeking a motivated and hands‐on Electronics Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This Perth‐based role will support the development, testing, integration, and ongoing improvement of specialized electronic systems used in the rail industry both within Australia and internationally.

This role is suited to a graduate or early‐career engineer with at least 1 year of experience looking to further develop their career within a unique and highly specialised engineering environment. Occasional travel may be required in line with operational and project requirements.

Purpose of the Position

The Electronics Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and support of electronic systems and components. The role contributes across the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through to testing, validation, and implementation, ensuring systems perform reliably in operational environments.

You will be part of a friendly, professional, and supportive team within a dynamic and well‐regarded engineering business, working closely with multidisciplinary teams including software, mechanical, production, and field personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Design and develop electronic systems, circuits, and components.
* Support the development and continuous improvement of existing technologies and products.
* Conduct testing, validation, troubleshooting, and fault‐finding activities on designs and prototypes.
* Prepare technical documentation, specifications, reports, and related engineering records.
* Support product integration, manufacturing, servicing, and deployment activities.
* Ensure designs and systems meet safety, regulatory, operational, and company quality requirements.
* Collaborate with software, mechanical, production, and field personnel to support project delivery and operational outcomes.
* Participate in technical discussions with customers and stakeholders when required.
* Assist with project coordination, planning, and engineering support activities.
* Provide technical guidance and support to technicians and junior personnel as applicable.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives relating to products, systems, and engineering processes.

Essential Requirements

* Degree qualification in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related discipline.
* Minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience.
* Strong problem‐solving and analytical skills.
* Sound understanding of electronic systems, circuit design, and electronic components.
* Ability to interpret schematics, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
* Understanding of testing, validation, and troubleshooting techniques.
* Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
* Commitment to safety, quality, and professional standards.

Desirable Experience

* Experience with embedded systems, sensors, industrial electronics, or data acquisition systems.
* Familiarity with PCB troubleshooting, soldering, and electronic assembly.
* Exposure to rail, mining, industrial, manufacturing, or field‐service environments.
* Familiarity with programming, embedded systems, or relevant engineering software tools.
* Practical understanding of manufacturing and field application environments.
