About The RoleTownsville City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator to lead our Environmental Health team and deliver high quality outcomes for our community. In this role, you will coordinate, guide, and support a specialised multidisciplinary team of Environmental Health Officers and other environmental professionals.
You will ensure the team remains up to date with evolving industry trends and legislative requirements across a diverse range of functions, including food safety, disaster management, environmental protection, public health, personal appearance services, waste, environmentally relevant activities, footpath dining, development approvals, and compliance with state legislation and local laws.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong record of visible safety leadership and a commitment to fostering a positive and proactive safety culture. You will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health or a related field, supported by extensive professional experience, including at least five years working in the profession.
You will have demonstrated success leading high performing teams, managing workloads and resources effectively, and collaborating with other coordinators and internal stakeholders. Developing staff capability will be one of your key strengths, through structured training, mentoring, coaching, and performance development.
A strong focus on continuous improvement is essential. You will actively identify opportunities to enhance service delivery, streamline processes, and ensure consistent, high quality outcomes. Your ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders will support a collaborative, customer focused approach to service delivery.
This role also requires proven experience in financial and budget management, including resource planning, balancing competing priorities, and meeting statutory and legal obligations. Your communication, consultation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills will enable you to navigate sensitive issues with confidence and professionalism.
You will bring extensive experience reviewing high risk or complex investigations and making sound, evidence based decisions. The ability to represent Council in legal proceedings when required is essential, along with the capability to provide clear, comprehensive technical advice on high risk activities.
