About Us: UMS specialises in designing and manufacturing advanced motion simulators for military driver training. Our flagship product, the Reconfigurable Driver Simulator (RDS), integrates high-tech software, mechanical, electrical, and robotics components to simulate vehicles such as the M1 Abrams main battle tank. UMS operates out of an advanced manufacturing hub in Waurn Ponds, Victoria, and has delivered systems to the Australian Army and secured further contracts for other vehicle simulations.
About the Role: Reporting to the Principal Systems Engineer, the Senior Systems Engineer will lead the development and integration of systems into the RDS and related products. The role involves providing guidance and mentorship to the Systems Engineering team, developing engineering solutions, and ensuring RDS systems are safe to produce, install, operate, and maintain.
Key Responsibilities:
* Integrate RDS systems and ensure timely delivery of engineering solutions.
* Prepare and review design requirements and systems engineering documents.
* Conduct Verification and Validation programs and system safety reviews.
* Assist with engineering releases, task progression reporting, and compliance with quality standards.
* Ensure Systems developed and integrated that are safe, fit for purpose, producible, maintainable, and sustainable, and are fully compliant with all requirements.
* Support employee wellbeing and the development of a "Safety First" culture.
* Demonstrate commitment to UMS values and perform additional duties as needed.
Required Skills:
* Tertiary qualifications in Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience in requirements management.
* Experience in the Systems Engineering lifecycle and knowledge of standards such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2015.
* Experience in developing and/or conducting Verification and Validation activities.
* Experience in developing and/or conducting Systems Safety activities and knowledge of MIL-STD-882.
* Experience in systems integration.
* Experience in change management, presenting to the Configuration Change Board (CCB).
* Ability to perform duties with minimal guidance and direction.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience within Defence or Defence industry.
* Experience with requirements management applications such as DOORS or Jama Connect.
* Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or system architecture development.
* Experience with vehicle simulation or vehicle data survey and their associated systems.
* Industry experience in developing complex platforms/systems.
* Working knowledge of ADF and/or CASG operations, knowledge of ASDEFCON or equivalent complex system acquisition frameworks.
* Experience in handling Export Controlled materiel.
Requirements:
* Hold or be eligible to attain the appropriate Australian Security Clearances and comply with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations clearance procedures.
* Subject to pre-employment background checks, including a police check.
Additional Information: The role requires short missions within Victoria and Australia (typically 1 to 3 days every 2 to 3 months).
