This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

The Koori Family Violence Practitioner (KFVP) is a key frontline role supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people attending the Magistrates' Court for family violence‐related matters. Based at Shepparton Magistrates' Court, this role reports to the Court Services Manager and is professionally supported by Senior Koori Practice Advisors, working as part of the broader Koori Justice Unit. The KFVP provides culturally safe, trauma‐informed support, undertakes intake and risk assessments, facilitates referrals, engages with community and stakeholders, and contributes to improved outcomes for Aboriginal court users and their families.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide culturally safe, non‐legal support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people attending court for family violence matters.
* Conduct intake and risk assessments and connect clients with legal, counselling and case management services.
* Support people who use family violence through referrals that promote accountability and address underlying issues.
* Engage with community and stakeholders, including delivering outreach to other court locations.
* Maintain confidential records, contribute to program improvement and uphold culturally safe, trauma‐informed practice.

Travel to other court venues is required, including occasional overnight travel.

About You

Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. To ensure that the intention of the recruitment process is maintained, a 'Confirmation of Aboriginality' document will be required preferred applicant/s, you are also welcomed to attach th is as part of your application.

* Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, community and contemporary issues.
* Ability to engage respectfully and communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and stakeholders.
* Experience working with clients with complex needs.
* Relevant qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Aboriginal Health, or a related field are desirable.
* Alternatively, significant experience working in family violence, criminal justice, community welfare or related areas will be considered.
