Staff Specialist in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine
John Hunter Hospital – Fixed term temporary part time 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) – 15 June 2026 to 1 August 2027.
An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Physician to join the Respiratory and Sleep Department at John Hunter Hospital. In this temporary role you will provide high‐quality, evidence‐based, patient‐focused General Respiratory, Sleep and Cystic Fibrosis services to admitted and non‐admitted patients, as well as their families and carers.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist clinical care in General Respiratory Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis.
* Deliver patient‐centred, evidence‐based care to inpatient and outpatient populations.
* Utilise clinical information systems to support informed decision making and effective care planning.
* Communicate and collaborate effectively with medical, nursing and allied health staff to ensure quality and continuity of care.
* Participate in teaching, supervision and mentoring of junior medical staff and trainees.
* Contribute to service development, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.
* Comply with relevant legislation, NSW Ministry of Health policies and HNELHD procedures to support Activity Based Funding requirements and Commonwealth and State performance targets.
Essential Requirements
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.
* Current specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Recent and comprehensive clinical experience in General Respiratory Medicine.
* Completion of or evidence of working towards Sleep Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis training.
* Demonstrated commitment to patient‐centred care, clinical excellence and multidisciplinary teamwork.
* Ability to provide consulting services to the Diagnostic Lung Cancer clinic at Calvary Mater Newcastle, if needed.
