Tourism Australia is excited to offer an 8-month acting opportunity for the role of Strategic Government Relations Manager within the Corporate Affairs team. Tourism Australia is seeking a highly capable and politically sharp Strategic Government Relations Manager to play a critical role in shaping our engagement within the Australian Government. Working closely with the General Manager, Government Relations, you will operate at the intersection of promotion, policy, politics, and industry - supporting Cabinet and parliamentary processes, managing key stakeholder relationships and ensuring Tourism Australia is well positioned to influence outcomes that support the growth of Australia’s visitor economy. About the Role This is a high-impact role responsible for supporting and executing Tourism Australia’s government engagement strategy. You will provide trusted advice to senior leaders, coordinate complex processes across government and represent Tourism Australia in key forums. Key areas of focus include: Work across Tourism Australia to provide government relations advice on campaigns, initiatives, and risk management Support the development and execution of strategies to represent tourism across federal government agencies. Lead coordination of input into Commonwealth Budget processes and contribute to Cabinet submissions and policy advice. Help manage relationships with the Office of the Minister for Trade and Tourism and support parliamentary processes, including inquiries and Senate Estimates. Build and maintain strong relationships with key agencies including DFAT, Austrade, Home Affairs and Infrastructure to advance Tourism Australia’s objectives. Prepare high-quality ministerial briefings, submissions, and correspondence, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities. About You You are a strategic thinker and have a deep understanding of government processes. You thrive in complex environments and are confident engaging with diverse and senior stakeholders. You will bring: Experience in a Ministerial office, government department, or agency at a senior level Tertiary qualifications in Law, Economics, Business, Communications or a related field are highly regarded. Demonstrated expertise in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and government relations Strong understanding of Cabinet, Budget and parliamentary processes Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality briefs and submissions Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure Highly developed influencing and relationship-building skills About Us Tourism Australia is the Australian Government agency responsible for attracting international visitors to Australia, both for leisure and business events.
