Senior Financial Accountant ‐ Audit & Transformation
$150,000 TRP (Inc. Super) + $5,000 per audit closed
Meinhardt is one of Australia's leading engineering, infrastructure and project management consultancies. Our projects shape the communities we live in, from transport and aviation infrastructure to healthcare, education, commercial and urban development projects.
Behind every successful project is a finance team that delivers accurate reporting, commercial insight, and strong governance. As we continue to strengthen and modernise our operations, we're investing heavily in our finance capability.
About the Role
Not all accounting roles are created equal. Cost accounting roles focus on closing one financial year. Over the next two years, you'll play a leading role in completing six historical statutory audits, rationalising a complex corporate structure, and helping modernise the finance function through improved systems, automation and reporting.
We're looking for someone with a strong audit foundation who enjoys solving difficult problems, untangling historical accounting issues, implementing smarter ways of working, and leaving organisations in a stronger position than they found them.
This is a rare opportunity to combine technical accounting, audit remediation, corporate restructuring and finance transformation in a role with direct exposure to the CFO and executive leadership team.
What You'll Do
Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the CFO, you'll play a key role in both day-to-day financial reporting and a major audit remediation and finance transformation program.
The Opportunity
Completion of six historical financial year audits, technical accounting and statutory reporting, process redesign and finance transformation, system and reporting improvements, direct engagement with senior leadership and external auditors.
Audit and Structure Remediation
* Lead the preparation of audit workpapers and supporting documentation
* Coordinate with external auditors to resolve outstanding matters
* Assist in closing six historical financial year audits over a two-year period
* Prepare statutory financial statements and disclosure notes
* Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and regulatory requirements
* Review, simplify and rationalise a complex corporate structure across multiple entities
* Partner with the CFO and Finance Manager to implement structural changes that improve governance, compliance and operational efficiency
* Assist with entity restructures, intercompany reconciliations, historical balance sheet clean-up and legal entity rationalisation projects
* Identify opportunities to strengthen financial controls, reporting integrity and statutory compliance
Systems, Process Improvement & Transformation
* Identify opportunities to automate and simplify finance processes
* Improve reporting structures, controls and workflows
* Implement new tools and technology solutions across the finance function
* Challenge existing processes and drive continuous improvement
* Help build a modern, scalable finance function
* Develop practical solutions to long-standing accounting and operational challenges
* Leverage technology, AI and automation to reduce manual effort and improve insight
* Create robust documentation, procedures and frameworks that support future growth
What We're Looking For
You'll likely be a:
* Audit Manager or Assistant Manager looking to move into industry
* Technical Accountant
You'll bring:
* CA or CPA qualification
* Strong external audit or statutory reporting experience
* Solid understanding of Australian Accounting Standards
* Experience preparing financial statements and audit workpapers
* Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills
* Advanced Excel skills
* A natural curiosity and desire to solve problems
* A passion for process improvement and systems optimisation
* Experience within a professional services, engineering, architecture or consulting environment will be highly regarded
Why Join Us?
To recognise the significance of the audit remediation program, you'll receive a $5,000 bonus for each historical financial year audit successfully closed and signed off. With six audits scheduled for completion, this represents a potential $30,000 additional remuneration over the project period.
Additional benefits include:
* $150,000 package including superannuation
* Direct exposure to CFO and executive leadership
* Opportunity to lead meaningful finance transformation
* Exposure to a global engineering consultancy
* Flexible and supportive team culture
Who Will Love This Role?
* Enjoys solving complex accounting problems
* Gets excited by finding efficiencies and improving systems
* Loves turning messy data into meaningful insights
* Sees audits as a challenge rather than a burden
* Wants to leave a lasting impact on a finance function
If you're looking for another routine month-end role, this probably isn't it.
If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical accounting, audit expertise, systems thinking and continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you.
