Overview
An exciting opportunity to join the Gold Coast services team as a Field Engineer working on the nbn network. The Field Services (FS) Team within Chief Operations Business Unit provides Field Workforce capabilities across all technologies for Service Activation, Service Assurance, Network Assurance, Network Maintenance, Customer Complaints linked with Network faults and Quality Inspection.
Based in the Gold Coast, the Field Engineer will represent the nbn Field Services team in all field-based assurance and build activities specifically related to the HFC network. Responsibilities include supporting HFC network integration, augmentation, and upgrades, conducting field audits, ensuring connect quality, and managing Delivery Partner performance linked to the HFC infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Provide high-level field support, including travel, scheduled after-hours work, and participation in an on-call roster to respond to urgent HFC-related escalations and service issues.
* Manage field operations and network assurance across nbn's passive and active infrastructure, focusing on the HFC (Hybrid Fibre‐Coaxial) network.
* Oversee assurance activities and execute network element upgrades within the HFC domain.
* Perform on-site technical support, resolve escalations, and maintain a deep understanding of HFC architecture, RF fundamentals, and operations.
* Ensure effective network performance and upgrade delivery, with familiarity in FTTP technologies as beneficial.
* Manage competing priorities, adapt to evolving technologies and field conditions, and maintain a proactive approach to challenges.
Qualifications & Experience
* Strong technical background in maintaining and restoring HFC infrastructure.
* Hands‐on experience in field‐based assurance and fault resolution.
* Deep understanding of HFC architecture and operations, particularly building/commissioning outside‐plant network equipment (Nodes, Amplifiers, passive devices).
* Familiarity with network assurance protocols across technologies such as Ethernet, DWDM, and GPON.
* Experience with FTTX technologies, including FTTP, is advantageous.
* Problem‐solving skills, methodical troubleshooting, and escalation management.
* Quick learner, adaptable to changing technologies and field conditions.
* High level of organization, teamwork, and resilience under pressure.
Requirements
The preferred candidate will be required to undertake a Criminal History Check and a Pre‐Employment Medical Assessment to assess their ability to perform the genuine occupational requirements of the position.
