Overview
The Head of Teaching and Learning provides strategic leadership and oversight of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and professional practice across the School from Prep to Year 12. The role is responsible for driving excellence in teaching and learning outcomes that reflect the School's Anglican ethos, educational vision, and commitment to student growth, wellbeing, and academic success. Working collaboratively with the Principal, School Leadership Team, teachers, and support staff, the Head of Teaching and Learning fosters a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, evidence-informed practice, and academic excellence. The role ensures alignment and consistency in teaching and learning practices across all year levels while supporting the development of staff capability and student achievement.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Leadership: Lead the development, implementation, and review of the School's Teaching and Learning Strategy; promote a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement, and educational excellence; support the Principal and Executive Team in achieving the School's strategic priorities; drive innovation in curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and reporting practices; ensure alignment and consistency of teaching and learning practices across Prep to Year 12; lead the rollout and implementation of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE); lead the curriculum-related aspects of School registration and compliance processes for Years 10–12 with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).
* Curriculum and Pedagogy: Oversee curriculum planning, implementation, review, and compliance with Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) requirements, Victorian Child Safe Standards, and VRQA compliance obligations; ensure curriculum continuity, coherence, and progression across all year levels; monitor and evaluate curriculum effectiveness using student achievement data and evidence-based practices; support differentiation and inclusive teaching practices; lead curriculum documentation, moderation, and assessment consistency across learning areas and in line with the reporting cycle; support academic transitions between key stages (e.g. Year 4 to Year 5, Year 9 to Year 10); ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum and pedagogy across all stages and departments; promote reflective practice and evidence-informed teaching approaches.
* Teacher Accreditation and Professional Practice: Oversee and support teacher accreditation processes, including Highly Accomplished Teacher and Lead Teacher; provide targeted support for early career teachers toward Proficient Teacher accreditation, including mentoring, induction programs, and portfolio development; ensure compliance with Victoria Institute of Teaching (VIT) accreditation requirements and maintain accurate records of teacher progress and status; provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to staff pursuing accreditation and career advancement.
* Assessment and Data Analysis: Oversee whole-school assessment and reporting practices; analyse student achievement data to identify trends, strengths, and opportunities for improvement; support staff in using data effectively to inform teaching, intervention, and curriculum planning; coordinate assessment schedules and academic reporting processes; monitor academic outcomes (e.g., NAPLAN, VCE, ICAS, internal and external assessment measures).
* Professional Growth and Development: Lead the School's professional learning strategy, including design and delivery of whole-school professional development programs; build leadership capacity among staff through mentoring, coaching, and targeted development initiatives; ensure professional learning aligns with strategic priorities, curriculum needs, and individual teacher goals; contribute to recruitment, induction, and retention of teaching staff; support staff performance review processes through coaching, feedback, and goal setting.
* Digital Technology and Innovation: Lead the strategic integration of digital technologies into teaching and learning practices across Prep–Year 12; promote innovative approaches to digital pedagogy, including blended and online learning models; collaborate with IT and Digital Learning teams to ensure staff are supported in the effective use of educational technologies, including AI; encourage the exploration and implementation of emerging educational technologies to enhance student learning outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education
* Significant leadership experience in curriculum development, teaching and learning, or school improvement
* Demonstrated knowledge of Victorian Curriculum, VCAA, VRQA, and compliance requirements
* Experience in leading educational innovation and strategic improvement initiatives
* Strong understanding of assessment, data analysis, and evidence-based teaching practices
* Current Working with Children Check
* National Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
* Postgraduate qualifications in Education, Leadership, or a related field
* Experience with teacher accreditation processes
* Familiarity with digital learning platforms and emerging educational technologies
* Current First Aid Certificate
