Gilmour Space is the leading Australian rocket company, pioneering next‐generation hybrid propulsion technologies for small satellite launch vehicles.
We are looking for an experienced Flight Software EngineerII to work alongside fellow engineers and the wider organisation, contributing to product development and R&D associated with developing launch vehicles.
Responsibilities
* Contribute as part of a team of Flight Software Engineers to deliver Flight Software products and services
* Conduct junior leadership responsibilities where applicable, when technical authority is not required
* Lead small product teams on a quarterly basis
* Participate in the development of software engineering designs, processes and activities
* Take accountability as a Responsible Engineer for Flight Software products
* Conduct technical assessments, including concept studies, trade studies, analysis of COTS solutions and estimates for research and development
* Adhere to and participate in product development engineering processes, including requirements definition, preliminary/detailed design and verification/validation
* Support software unit and integration testing and operations (may include travel to remote sites)
* Support investigations, troubleshooting and fixes
* Support execution of research and development activities
* Support software engineering production activities associated with the launch vehicle product lines
* Co‐ordinate with the mechanical, propulsion and manufacturing engineering departments as well as the production organisation
* Engage with external suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders
* Ensure that engineering activities are conducted and documented in accordance with Gilmour Space policies, plans and procedures
* Perform other duties as requested by management
Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Software, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics or Mechatronics Engineering, or a relevant qualification
* 2+ years of experience in a professional embedded software development and design engineering role
* Proven ability to operate in dynamic, fast‐paced environments
* Demonstrated resilience in high‐stress situations
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Experience with C/C++, Python, MATLAB
* Experience with bare‐metal, RTOS and embedded Linux software development
* Experience with FPGA software development (VHDL/Verilog)
* Experience with aerospace software engineering standards (e.g. DO‐178C)
* Experience writing both inline and markdown software documentation
* Experience using static/dynamic analysis and code coverage tools
* Experience using software debugging tools (e.g. GDB)
* Experience developing unit and integration tests
* Experience using git workflows
* Experience conducting DevOps activities (managing infrastructure, developing CI/CD capabilities)
* Experience developing software in accordance with Waterfall and Agile management frameworks
* Understanding of systems engineering practises
* Demonstrated engineering experience within aerospace, medical, automotive or similar safety‐critical and high‐reliability software development and design engineering settings
* Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team environment with a desire and willingness to assist other team members
