The Mount Barker Co-operative was established in 1918 to service the Shire of Plantagenet and its surrounds. As a Co‐operative, our customers are the owners. Services provided are determined by the needs of the members and include retail stores IGA Supermarket, Mitre 10, Cellarbrations Liquor, fuel sites located at Mt Barker and Cranbrook, delivery of fuel on farms and partnership with Elders for rural supplies. The Co‐operative has evolved with time and is a unique type of business. Profits remain in our local community, which benefits the town through improvements to our facilities, sponsorships to local community groups, and most importantly, rewards, dividends, and discounts to our members. As we go forward, we want the Co‐operative to be a sustainable and efficiently run business that will serve the needs of our members and our community well into the future.

About the role

We are seeking a highly capable manager to support the efficient and effective operations of our retail and fuel businesses. Reporting to the CEO, the Operations Manager will develop a strong financial understanding of the business and proactively engage with opportunities to strengthen the co‐op and deliver meaningful value to our members.

Be an integral part of our store management team to effectively collate our policies and processes to streamline communication and training of our staff to create a consistent positive customer experience and encourage an engaged and safer workplace.

Work closely with the CEO to understand the fundamentals and delivery of strong financial results. Actively support as required ongoing operational compliance, infrastructure and development undertakings.

Key responsibilities

* Operational policy development: Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the management team that empowers employees through a purposeful, safer environment.
* Operational profitability: contribute to and support the efficient and profitable operations of the business.
* Resource management to support development and infrastructure needs: plan, prioritise, and monitor projects to develop operations and maintain infrastructure efficiency.
* Compliance management: ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and internal policies.
* Support the Co‐op brand and a high level of customer service: oversee marketing and promotional activities and implement strategies to deliver consistent customer service across all operations.

About you

* Managerial or leadership experience in mentoring and supervising staff.
* Understanding of policy and procedure development with a keen eye for detail.
* Customer service-focused with experience in communicating this skill and training others in this area.
* Financial acumen with preferably recent exposure to the metrics of operating a business in the retail or fuel sector.
* Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with others across all levels of the business, including the capacity to professionally interact and present information at an executive level.
* Problem‐solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve issues proactively.
* Excellent organisational and multitasking skills with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
