Job No.: 694167

Faculty: Faculty of Education

Location: Clayton campus

Employment Type: Full-time

Duration: 3.5-year fixed-term appointment

Remuneration: $37,145 p/a

Principal Supervisor(s): Associate Professor Emily M. Gray

The Opportunity

Applications are invited from outstanding domestic candidates for a fully funded research-based PhD scholarship, based at the School of Education and Culture at the Faculty of Education in Melbourne, Australia.

The successful applicant will work alongside a team of researchers from across Australia on an Australian Research Council funded project entitled Hitting the Limits: Intersectional sexisms in Australian universities. The scholarship will fund a project that examines LGBTIQA+ academics' institutional locations, experiences and private and professional means of support within Australian universities. Applicants are encouraged to develop their own research project in relation to the following key questions:

* Where are LGBTIQA+ academics in Australia located in terms of discipline and geographical location?
* Do LGBTIQA+ academics in Australia feel welcome within their workplaces?
* What support mechanisms and/or strategies do LGBTIQA+ academic staff draw upon in their private and professional worlds?

The project Hitting the Limits responds to the limits of Australian university culture by examining the conditions that limit social cohesion in relation to gender. It generates new theoretical, cultural and practical knowledge about how experiences of intersectionality, gender, power and complexity shape universities.

Joining our thriving research community at the School of Education and Culture and Monash Faculty of Education, your PhD project will offer an opportunity to connect with students and leading experts across the globe.

Candidate Requirements

To be eligible you must:

* Be a domestic candidate
* Have the necessary qualifications, such as a research master's or honours year to meet the selection requirements into the doctoral program (see Monash University PhD entry requirements)
* Be enrolling full time and on campus
* Not already hold a PhD

The selection committee will prioritise applicants with significant knowledge of feminist and queer theories and LGBTIQA+ people and communities. LGBTIQA+ people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will be expected to enrol by August 2026. However, there may be some flexibility to the date of commencement.
