Senior Process Engineer


Adchem (Australia) Pty Ltd is a long-established, privately owned manufacturer of copper based inorganic chemicals for industrial and agricultural markets worldwide. Based in Burra in the mid-north of South Australia, approximately 160 km north of Adelaide, we have built an enviable reputation within the inorganic chemical manufacturing sector.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Engineer to lead process optimization, technical problem-solving, and engineering initiatives at our Burra facility. This role will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, supporting production efficiency, and delivering capital projects while ensuring quality, safety, and environmental compliances.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be the technical authority for our processes and equipment, with the potential to broaden your remit into Production Management capacity based on your success and aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, yield, quality, and cost-effectiveness by evaluating and implementing new technologies and innovative process improvements

· Conduct detailed process analyses, mass and energy balances, and troubleshooting investigations

· Design and implement process control strategies and automation solutions

· Develop and maintain process documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, operating procedures, and design bases and perform process hazard analyses (HAZOP)

· Provide expert technical support to production and maintenance teams for complex process issues

· Coordinating the maintenance and repairs of production equipment, including planned shutdown works.

· Lead and deliver capital improvement projects from concept through commissioning

· Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, and design packages

· Liaise with third-party consultants and contractors as required

· Champion safety culture and ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant work health and safety regulations, legislation, practice codes, and Australian standards

· Contribute to the maintenance of quality management systems as per the ISO standards

· Ensure production activities comply with the Environmental Management Plan and other Environmental Improvement Programs.

· Act as the technical authority on assigned processes and equipment and provide management leadership to plant operations activities when required

Required Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering (essential)

· Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards registration (desirable)

· Minimum 7-10 years of process engineering experience in chemical manufacturing or process industries

· Proven experience in both operational support and capital project delivery

· Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles including thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, fluid dynamics, and heat and mass transfer

· Experience with process safety management and hazard analysis techniques

· Proficiency in process control systems, instrumentation, and automation technologies

The role and environment will require an individual who can "think on their feet" and is a consummate, passionate engineer who displays a logical, focused, pragmatic approach.

This is a salaried position. The successful applicant will receive an attractive remuneration package includes participation in company bonus scheme, commensurate with the role, and additional capabilities, skills, and experience will be recognised where appropriate.

This is a site-based role in Burra, South Australia (approximately 160 km north of Adelaide). The position requires:

· Full-time commitment with flexibility for project commissioning and planned shutdowns

· Significant time on the production floor working in a chemical manufacturing environment

· Occasional after-hours or weekend work during critical phases

Relocation assistance can also be negotiated for interstate applicants.
