Position Summary
Early Childhood Teachers contribute to creating a community where children are nurtured in an authentic Christian environment. The Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Service focuses on providing enriched opportunities for learning and development in language, communication, and social relationships, supporting children to develop creativity, confidence, curiosity, and care as they explore God's world. In this role, you are responsible for delivering high-quality, Christ-centred early childhood education that supports the holistic development of each child. Your practice reflects a deep respect for the inherent worth, dignity, and God-given potential of every child, while modelling Christian faith and fostering a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. Teaching and learning are guided by the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the expectations of the National Quality Standard (NQS) for ECEC services, ensuring play-based, intentional programs that support children's wellbeing, identity, communication, and active engagement in learning.
Teaching and Learning
* Plan, implement, and evaluate high-quality early childhood learning programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Christian philosophy of the ECEC Service and College.
* Use intentional, play-based teaching strategies that support children's language, communication, social development, and early learning.
* Differentiate learning experiences to meet the developmental needs, interests, and abilities of individual children.
* Create engaging learning environments that encourage curiosity, exploration, creativity, and confidence.
* Observe, document, and reflect on children's learning to inform planning and support continuous improvement in teaching practice.
Christian Mission, Ministry, and Pastoral Care
* Model a Christ-centred life in conduct, relationships, and professional practice, consistent with the ethos of the College.
* Integrate Biblical principles, Christian worldview, and spiritual formation opportunities into teaching programs where appropriate.
* Actively support the faith life of the school by participating in devotions, prayer, worship services, and pastoral programs.
* Provide pastoral care that reflects the character of Christ by offering compassion, support, and encouragement to students and families.
Learning Environment and Student Wellbeing
* Establish and maintain safe, orderly, and inclusive learning environments that promote student wellbeing and respectful behaviour.
* Implement positive guidance and behaviour support strategies consistent with ECEC service policies and procedures as well as College policies and Christian values.
* Support children's social and emotional development and respond appropriately to individual wellbeing needs.
* Maintain learning environments and practices that meet the requirements of the National Quality Standard (NQS).
Assessment, Feedback, and Reporting
* Use a range of developmentally appropriate assessment and observation methods to monitor and document children's learning and progress.
* Maintain accurate and confidential learning records and documentation in accordance with ECEC Service, College and regulatory requirements.
* Communicate children's learning and development with families through reports, conversations, and learning documentation.
* Reflect on assessment information to inform planning and improve learning outcomes.
Skilled Practice and Development
* Participate in professional learning, reflective practice, and performance appraisal processes to strengthen teaching effectiveness.
* Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with the relevant professional standards for teachers and the strategic direction of the ECEC Service and the College.
* Maintain professional knowledge of contemporary early childhood education practices and regulatory requirements.
Communication and Partnerships
* Foster respectful, collaborative relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the wider College community.
* Communicate openly and professionally with families regarding children's learning, wellbeing, and development.
* Support a strong partnership between the ECEC Service and families to enhance children's learning and wellbeing.
Compliance, Duty of Care, and Operational Responsibilities
* Uphold all legal responsibilities, regulatory requirements, ECEC service policies, and child-safe standards, including mandatory reporting and WHS obligations.
* Maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, ethical conduct, and digital citizenship.
* Attend staff meetings, professional learning sessions, ECEC service planning meetings, and Service or College events as required.
* Supervise children at all times, including during indoor and outdoor play, rest periods, meals, excursions, and transitions, ensuring duty-of-care obligations are met.
* Support the effective daily operation of the ECEC Service, including maintaining secure and well-prepared learning environments, resources, and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Workplace Health & Safety
* Promote and model the importance of health and safety across the workplace.
* Remain vigilant to potential or actual hazards and take appropriate action to address or report them.
* Take reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of colleagues and students, intervening where necessary to prevent unsafe acts or conditions.
* Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required and use it correctly.
* Engage in mandated emergency procedures and drills to maintain operational preparedness and uphold organisational safety protocols.
Qualifications required
* ACECQA-approved Early Childhood Teaching qualification
* Current Teacher Registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (TRBSA)
* Current South Australian Working With Children Check
* Successful completion of RRHAN – EC (South Australia)
* Completion of mandatory ECEC child safe training (via Gecko platform)
* Experience in kindergarten/preschool early learning environments
* Knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Framework (NQF)
* Strong understanding of child development and inclusive education practices
Selection Criteria
* Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to support Lead Educator to plan and prepare education and care programs which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of children; and are consistent with relevant approved learning frameworks, National Quality Standards, and the Centre's Philosophy.
* Ability to support Lead Educator to implement effective, holistic and inclusive education and care practices, including the use of the planning and assessment cycle.
* Capacity to communicate effectively with children, families and staff including the use of appropriate interpersonal skills, and the ability to support Lead Educator to plan and apply appropriate behaviour guidance strategies that contribute to a supportive, inclusive, quality early education and care environment.
* An understanding of the need to work collaboratively with early learning centre staff, parents/caregivers, and members of the wider community in order to achieve desirable outcomes for children.
Skills and Qualifications
* The successful applicant will hold or be actively working towards a Certificate III in Education and Care, or an ACEQA recognised equivalent qualification and/or Diploma in Early Childhood Educator.
* First Aid Qualifications – including CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis.
