4Tel is a leading communications and systems integration company with experience across various transport sectors both domestically and internationally. As a result of recent growth, we are expanding our Technical Support team in Newcastle, NSW.
We understand that the ideal candidate may come from a range of different industries and have differing experience to those who might have previously applied for this role, so we are interested in receiving applications from people who might be:
* Experienced Level 1 or 2 IT support staff, with experience supporting Windows desktop and server operating systems (Unix and Linux would also be highly desirable).
* Defence technicians with understandings of electronics and radio communication platforms.
* Someone who can demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the role that we have outlined below.
About the role
The role is focused on management of 4Tel internal and customer IT systems. This role is typically normal working hours, with a rotating occasional on‑call roster. On occasion the role may be required to cover a shift performed by our 24/7 support team.
We will provide on‑the‑job training to the successful candidate to ensure that they are well equipped to manage the technical challenges that come with working in such a unique environment.
Responsibilities
* Daily checks of 4Tel systems
* Answer and action customer calls
* Liaise with project staff concerning system changes and new build releases
* Schedule system changes
* Implement system changes
* Take part in team meetings
Technical services
* Installation and maintenance of communications and control systems
* Administration of Unix, Linux and Windows platforms
* Systems‑based approach to fault finding and diagnosis
* Technical documentation and supporting engineering report preparation
* Comply with current cyber security practices
We will negotiate the salary for the successful candidates according to skill and time in industry.
Training and benefits
We are able to provide on‑the‑job training to assist with your understanding of the control and communication systems that we support through our current technical team. They will also assist you in understanding the systems deployment, maintenance and administration components of the role and most importantly – who to ask for the more difficult questions.

This role is only open to those who are permanent residents of Australia and preferably from the greater Newcastle area, or those willing to relocate at their own expense to Newcastle, NSW.
