Aboriginal mentor

Offer description

Most people don't drop out of apprenticeships because the work is too hard.

They leave because life gets in the way. Money pressure. Home life issues. Confidence knocks.

Workplace struggles. Feeling unsupported. Feeling unseen.

That's where you come in.

This is the kind of role where the small things matter.

You notice when someone hasn't eaten lunch. When they stop answering calls. When their confidence drops.

And instead of waiting for things to unravel, you step in early with practical support, guidance, and genuine care.

You'll support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander apprentices, trainees, and students through the moments that often determine whether they finish their qualification or walk away from it altogether.

And the impact is real.

You won't just be ticking boxes or making referrals from a distance. You'll build trusted relationships with young people, employers, training providers, schools, and families to keep everyone connected, and moving forward together.

You'll also be joining a team that genuinely lives its values.

The culture here is community-first, supportive, and deeply grounded in purpose. It's a small, committed team where people care about the work and about each other.

Flexibility is supported, a pool car is available, and your voice and lived experience will be valued.

What you'll need:

* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity
* Experience mentoring, supporting, or case managing people facing barriers to employment or training
* Understanding of apprenticeships, vocational education, or training systems
* Ability to build trust with young people, employers, families, and community
* Strong communication and record-keeping skills
* Trade, TAFE, youth work, community, or lived experience that helps you navigate people and systems confidently

Bara Barang Corporation is a not-for-profit Aboriginal organisation based on Darkinjung Country, focused on empowering Aboriginal young people through culture, mentoring, education, and employment pathways.

Through the Barranggirra: Aboriginal Skilling for Employment program, delivered in partnership with Training Services NSW, they support Aboriginal young people the whole way through training and into long-term employment where they can thrive.

If you want work where you can genuinely change someone's future, apply now or reach out for a yarn with Lucy Page on 0487 133 606 or lpage@rarekind.com.au
