About the Centre
Geraldton Tennis Centre (GTC) is a vibrant community tennis facility providing coaching, competition and participation opportunities for juniors and adults. Formed from the amalgamation of Geraldton Tennis Club and Spalding Park Tennis Club in July 2024, GTC currently has approximately 200 members and 25 courts, including 2 hard courts with lighting and 23 grass courts. GTC uses the ClubSpark platform for membership, coaching administration and court booking.
Facilities & Upgrades
GTC has completed a Strategic Plan and Master Plan. Current engineering design is underway to deliver:
* Six new hard courts with lighting – increasing coaching capacity and enabling evening programs
* Four pickleball courts
* Three padel courts
The Opportunity
This role is for an experienced coach looking to take on a meaningful position within a welcoming regional community. As Development Coach, you will deliver and grow coaching programs and have the flexibility to build independent income through school coaching and private lessons.
* Deliver and develop coaching programs for juniors and adults
* Build your own client base through private coaching and school programmes
* Leverage local school networks for before‐school, during‐school and holiday programmes
* Grow income alongside expanding hard‐court capacity and new sports (pickleball, padel)
* Work within a supportive club environment with an enthusiastic membership base
* Contribute to long‐term development and staged facility upgrades
* Collaborate on participation growth initiatives, community partnerships and grant‐funded programmes improving access for juniors and underrepresented groups
The Development Coach will work closely with the GTC Committee and contribute to coaching programme direction and participation strategy in a collaborative environment.
This role is structured as a pathway opportunity: success and performance may lead to transition into the Head Coach position within an agreed timeframe.
Remuneration & Income
The remuneration structure recognises both programme delivery and independent income.
* GTC Programme Delivery – Coach is paid an hourly rate by GTC for hours delivered with the club (e.g., junior club programme, beginner adult programmes).
* Independent Coaching Income – Coach retains full revenue from private lessons and school programmes delivered outside GTC.
Additional income opportunities will arise as new courts are opened and community programmes expand.
Engagement type: Independent Contractor (must hold own ABN)
Initial term: Negotiable – GTC offers appropriate security of tenure.
Reporting to: GTC Committee
Rate: Subject to negotiation based on experience and scope.
Coaching Responsibilities
* Deliver group and private coaching for juniors and adults of all standards.
* Support delivery of junior club programmes.
* Run or assist with junior events and competitions.
* Organise and deliver school holiday programmes for juniors and adults.
* Deliver cardio‐tennis programmes.
* Liaise with local schools and provide before‐and during‐school coaching programmes.
* Support player pathways into club competitions.
Centre Involvement
* Assist with delivery of events, including major days and sponsorship events.
* Support mid‐week and evening competitions as required.
* Assist with recruitment of new players and families to the Centre.
* Support marketing and promotion through social media where appropriate.
* Contribute to pickleball and padel programmes as new courts come online.
Essential Skills, Qualifications & Requirements
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills (essential).
* Level 1 Tennis Coaching Accreditation or higher.
* Current Working with Children Check (essential).
* Current Police Clearance (essential).
* C‐Class Driver's Licence (essential).
* First Aid Certificate (desirable).
* Sound IT skills, including use of social media (desirable).
